About Juwai Teer – India’s Unique Archery Lottery
Juwai Teer (also written as Jowai Teer) is a traditional archery-based lottery game played in Jowai, Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, India. It is one of the most culturally significant and legally recognised lottery games in Northeast India, governed by the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax Act and organised by the Jowai Teer Association.
Unlike conventional lotteries where numbers are drawn mechanically, Juwai Teer’s winning number is determined by live archery. Skilled archers shoot a fixed number of arrows at a bamboo target. Officials count all arrows that successfully hit the target, and the last two digits of that total count become the winning number for that round — making the result both transparent and skill-dependent.
The game runs Monday to Saturday. The standard Juwai Teer (Day session) First Round result is declared around 2:00 PM IST and the Second Round at 2:45 PM IST. Juwai Morning Teer results come out at approximately 10:30 AM (FR) and 11:30 AM (SR), while Night Teer results are announced at 10:30 PM (FR) and 11:30 PM (SR). No game is held on Sundays or Meghalaya state public holidays for the day session.
